Sila Kale Bal was written by the celebrated Serbian Gypsy musician Šaban Bajramović. The song’s title means Her hair is black; you can find a full translation here. This is a folky studio recording made by Bajramović with Mostar Sevdah Reunion in 2001. You can also watch him in a jazzier live performance filmed a couple of years before he died, with his big band Dobrovoljno Kovačko Društvo - the Association of Blacksmith Volunteers.
Moving even further into jazz territory there’s a Django Reinhardt gypsy jazz style version by the Hot Club Of Belgrade and a nice saxophone and double bass rendition by the Nesad Vasilic Balkan Band.
And here’s one Sam prepared earlier, with Les Tziganes du Bocage.
