Shope Shope is a traditional Bulgarian song in 7/4 time. It presents a rowdy argument between a shepherd, down from the mountains for a good time, and an old woman in the town who's telling him to shape up. This performance by the Academic Folk Choir of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is a lot more spirited than you might expect from their name.
A recording by the Thrace Ensemble, from Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares, Volume 3, is also available.
